ss38 spazio commerciale
ss38 commercial spacerenovation / extension commercial-residential building cosio valtellino sondrio Italy 2013
The project brief was to extend an existing building facing state road 38 (ss38) to mostly commercial use with some residential use on the upper floor. The extension is on the south of the block, with the addition of commercial area and the realisation of new upper volumes that in the future could be for residential or service use. This large extension presented the opportunity to remodel the entire volumetry of the complex. The face of the building was clad in reconstituted wood vertical slats . The slats were used not only to protect and insulate the building but also to give to the existing and the extension architectural unity. All glazing, new or refurbished, were made with the use of simple pull over and sealed insulating glass, supported by profiles in galvanized metal carpentry. A procedure of unified construction and materials made it possible to contain costs. Concrete, reconstituted wood slats, glazing , galvanized steel. The choice of reconstituted wood was the result of the optimal compromise between architectural merit, affordability and durability. The upper floor includes a large patio area protecting the residential development from road traffic noise and prevailing winds.
